STORAGE TIPS
Over the years, we have gained knowledge and experience about storing your valuables; we know what works best, as well as what doesn't work at all. The following are some thoughts and ideas which we hope will help you as you begin your storage experience. We are here to help you every step of the way, so please feel free to contact us with any questions.
PLANNING YOUR MOVE

Make a list of all the items you plan to store.

Choose a properly-sized unit. Discuss your list with our Storage Consultants who will help you choose the right size unit for your specific needs. Rent the smallest amount of space you need and fully pack the space.

Meet with the facility Manager/Storage Consultant to discuss the price, security features, access hours, and terms of the lease. Tour the facility and check the cleanliness, security and lighting. Inspect the unit you will be renting. Also, make a list of the packing supplies you will need. We sell a variety of different boxes, packing material, tape, locks, etc.

Make arrangements for transporting your items to the storage facility.
START PACKING!

Use only sturdy boxes and containers for storing items. Avoid grocery cartons and plastic bags as they do not stack well and are not designed for extended usage.

Use uniform boxes and fill to capacity. Uniform sizes are easy to stack, and partially full or overfilled cartons may collapse.

Label the boxes on all sides. Remember to list your stored items by what box they are stored in.

Pack heavy items in small boxes.

Pack mirrors and pictures in mirror boxes and pack them on edge.

Disassemble lamps, tables, and other furniture as applicable, then wrap the individual pieces and store them in boxes.

Wrap wooden table legs and chairs to avoid scratches.

Cover sofas, chairs and mattresses with plastic so they do not gather dust. Plan to stand sofas on end, if possible.

Cover dressers and chests of drawers with blankets so you can stack boxes on top of them.

Fill drawers and appliances with small items to conserve space.

Wrap dishes and other breakable items separately and layer padding at the top and bottom.

Clothing is best stored clean and in hanging wardrobe boxes, which we carry.
STORAGE DAY IS HERE!

Plan your storage space, keeping in mind how you are going to arrange your items. A good plan will save you the time and the hassle of having to rearrange your unit.

Try to place items in the storage unit in the order that you will need to access them. Items that will need to be accessed frequently should be stored near the front. Large, taller items should be stored in the back.

Try to allow for walkways in the center and on the sides, if possible. This will help dramatically with future access and also help with ventilation.

Do not lean furniture against the walls.

It is a good idea to prepare your space by placing a protective cover (cardboard mat, pallets or plastic) on the floor under your goods. This will help guard against dampness, especially with boxes.

Always protect upholstered furniture and mattresses with specially-designed plastic covers or sheets and blankets.

Stack lighter boxes on top of heavier boxes.

Make an inventory of your items and keep it in a safe place.
STORAGE DON'TS

DO NOT store combustible items (gas, oil, cleaning fluids, paint, etc.).

DO NOT store food.

DO NOT use printed or colored paper to wrap your goods. The ink may smudge or discolor items.
